Fasting & Prayer: I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” John 6:35

I am bible journaling, kind of, and rereading the whole 66 books of the bible in order. This time, I am doing it differently. Usually, I would write my notes in a separate notebook. However, I am writing all of my notes in my bible, which is helping. Nevertheless, I was reading the book of Exodus 25 and verse 30 caught my attention, which caused my mind to go crazy, in a good way.

I have tried fasting couple of times in the past and miserably failed. However, last year was the first time, I actually tried by doing research. I would do great the first, three-five days and after those days, I felt like I was climbing Mountain Everest during the fasting. I would crave the craziest foods and some foods I don’t eat. However, while reading Exodus 25:30, I instantly thought about Jesus in John 6:35 and how the Lord had fed manna to the Israelites. Instantly, it clicked.

Matthew 26:41 states ‘Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (NKJV)

As a new creation in Christ Jesus, we are spiritually connected to HIM. In connection with Christ Jesus, we are spiritually fed constantly like the manna given to the Israelites by our Heavenly Father. How? By constantly reading the word and praying. As Jeremiah said in Jeremiah 15:16, “Your words are what sustain me; they are food to my soul” (TLB).

As a novice or maybe intermediate individual, who is fasting and prayer, it can be difficult. However, having the right mindset and seeking the Lord’s guidance, you can overcome the flesh. John 6:35 and the manna the Lord fed the Israelites teaches us to depend of the Lord. As Jesus said to the devil, “It is written: man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). You have all the tool and resources you need in the word and through prayers, the Lord will strengthen you and direct you.

Amen!
